How can I change the Muse Proxy administrator user password?

Here are a set of instructions about how to change the Administrator password and restrict IP access:

A) Remove the authentication rule from the $MUSE_HOME/proxy/hosts.xml file:
Edit the $MUSE_HOME/proxy/hosts.xml file and delete the line <ALLOWED>*</ALLOWED> rule from the administrator context.

B) Change the password for the administrator user. This is done as follows:
1. Edit the $MUSE_HOME/proxy/passwords.xml file and in the "administrator" section replace the value for the field:
<PWD encryption="SHA1">
with the SHA1 encrypted value of the new password.

2.1. For Windows systems edit the $MUSE_HOME/proxy/stopMuseProxy.bat file and replace the value of the "-w" parameter:
administrator -w "oldpassSHA1encrypted"
with the SHA1 encrypted value of the new password.

2.2. For Unix/Linux systems edit the $MUSE_HOME/proxy/stopMuseProxy and the $MUSE_HOME/proxy/stopMuseProxy.csh files and replace the value of the "-w" parameter:
administrator -w "oldpassSHA1encrypted"
with the SHA1 encrypted value of the new password.

After a Muse Upgrade the Muse Proxy startup scripts must be edited again to add the changed password since they are overwritten by the Muse setup.

This can be used for partner and customer installations as well . To put the "admin.proxy2009" password in place one has to use its SHA1 encrypted value "4SLOj5YdjQfCoU1rVt3Yz4w5I88=" without quotes and follow the steps above. Having a known password in these installations for the administrator user will permit MuseGlobal technical support to access the Administration interface of the Muse proxy for troubleshooting purposes.

If customers/partners want to use another password than the one we proposed, then the steps to change the administrator password is:
1. Encode the desired password using the tool found in the $MUSE_HOME/use/tools/startPasswordEncoder tool; the command line for this tool is:
startPasswordEncoder -p admin.proxy2009
Note that the PasswordEncoder tool is available only in the Muse systems that have licensed the "Information Connection Engine Tools" Muse product.

2. Use the encoded password and perform the same steps as above using the new encrypted password.
