The Egyptian Knowledge Bank

His Excellency President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi says that “We are a society that learns and thinks and innovates”. A national initiative project is launched to offer each Egyptian citizen with the chance to learn, by creating “The Egyptian Knowledge Bank” which aims to provide scientific and modern material from articles, journals, multimedia, video and educational courses. This includes the creation of a huge digital library containing thousands of the latest scientific journals, electronic libraries, educational documentaries and books help databases in the various branches of knowledge. All of this is free to all Egyptians.

“Our goal is to provide all Egyptians with access to world-class publications, like Nature and Encyclopedia Britannica” explained Professor Dr. Tarek Shawki, who is head of Egypt’s Presidential Specialized Council for Education and Scientific Research tasked with organizing the project, as well as secretary-general of all specialized councils affiliated to the Egyptian presidency. “By providing these materials free of charge, the knowledge bank ensures that all Egyptians, no matter what their economic circumstances, will have the tools they need to excel in their education and research.”

The Egyptian Knowledge Bank portal will be integrated with a federated search solution that will provide users search capabilities across various content publishers hosted eBook, e-Journal, articles, databases, videos, audios and different material types. The federated search will be implemented using MuseGlobal’s Federated Search Engine.

The portal services all Egyptian citizens with different cultures and ages, to ensure that each segment receives the appropriate contents and services suitable for their interests and needs, the portal sections will be provided into main four categories:

  • Researchers: target all academic and researchers;
  • Students: target Egyptian students from primary till university;
  • Kids: target till 6th grade;
  • General reader: free to all Egyptians.

For each of the four categories, the portal will provide customized user experience, and different services to ensure that scientific and culture information reach all Egyptian citizens in a simplified and flexible way.

All citizens have the right to access the portal, but a registration module is provided to collect information related to the visitors to provide customized experience for logged-in users via their interests list.
